Figures

I am aligning two figures next to each other, each one with their separate captions.  But when I preview pdf the figures do not show up in the list of figures.

Enter the figures as inline

Enter the figures as inline rather than displayed or floating. Then, to have them be numbered automatically, Insert an encapsulated TeX field before them that reads

\begin{figure}[tbp] \centering

and another right after them that reads

\begin{figure}[tbp] \centering

To have them be automatically numbered, and to have them appear in the list of figures, place a \caption command before or after each one.

To force them to appear side by side, place each one within a minipage environment. This is done by entering an encapsulated TeX field reading

\begin{minpage}{xin}

before the graphic, where x is the amount of horizontal space in inches that you wish to devote the graphic. And placing another encapsulated TeX field just after the graphic which reads

\end{minipage}

See the attached document as an example of how to apply this technique.
